How to map your data

After you fill out- or import your products, you map your input data to the values in Pickler to start your calculations. Here's how.

Updated this week

You know mapping is needed when your products have no footprint calculations (data gaps). You can also see a red indicator badge next to Data mapping in the main sidebar.

This badge appears when Pickler detects unmapped values that require environmental context. This typically happens when you add product data via:

  • Excel/CSV Imports

  • API Integration

  • Form (though you can map directly in the form, if skipped, the item appears here).

Mapping Your Data (The Process)

Once you click Data mapping, you will navigate through the four tabs to link your primary data to IDEMAT.

1. Materials Tab

Map your internal material names to IDEMAT records.

  1. Locate & Select: Find an unmapped material and click Select material. You can use the toggle in the top right to hide materials that are already mapped. After clicking Select material (or a already mapped material), a new popup will open with available materials from IDEMAT.

  2. Find a matching material in IDEMAT: At the top, you will find your reference material. You can now browse IDEMAT to find a material that matches yours. Use use the filters (Plastics, Paper, etc.) to refine the IDEMAT results in combination with search.

  3. Hover over the material row to view more details. The sidebar will open and tells you the exact IDEMAT record and details.

  4. Confirm Mapping: Choose the most specific IDEMAT record that matches your material and click Map to this source.

Need help? Click Get help with mapping and type what material you are looking for. Often Pickler AI support can help you, or otherwise a person will see your message too and try to help you out.

2. Locations Tab

Map locations to geographical locations in Google and Energy data from IDEMAT.

  1. Map Google Location: For each location, search and select the correct specific address in the Google Location field. Pickler automatically picks the Energy Mix for the region in IDEMAT. You can click the source icon to see the energy region that was selected.

3. End of Life Regions Tab

Map your data to regions where your product will be disposed.

  1. Select Region: Use the dropdown menu to select the region where your product is typically disposed of (e.g., "Europe").

4. Category Tab

Map your internal product types to Pickler's standardized list, coming from GS1.

  1. Select Category: Use the dropdown menu to select the standardized category (e.g., "Shrinkwrap") that matches your product.

Saving Your Mapping

Click the Save button at the bottom of the to save your progress. When switching tabs, you will also be notified to save your progress.

Data Mapping does not autosave. This means that if you leave the mapping page or close your window, your progress will not be saved.
