Pickler helps you understand the full environmental footprint of your packaging through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Unlike eco-labels that focus on a single aspect, LCA looks at every stage of a product’s lifecycle—from raw materials to production, transport, and disposal.

Step 1: Data collection and preparation

Pickler starts with your product’s source data—such as materials, production, transport, and end-of-life details. Only minimal data is required to get started, so you can quickly gain insights and identify impact hotspots in your packaging without being held up by lengthy data collection. Pickler fills any gaps with conservative default values that prevent greenwashing, using predictive algorithms

Step 2: Enter and map Your Data

Once your data is in Pickler, it needs to be mapped. This process links your source data—like materials and production methods—to environmental data from IDEMAT, a trusted database of environmental information. Mapping to IDEMAT is essential because it provides the background data needed to calculate environmental impact, allowing Pickler to generate meaningful impact reports.

Step 3: Pickler's LCA calculations go to work

After mapping, Pickler calculates your product’s impact. Pickler's calculation rules are approved by Sustainability Impact Metrics and follow Fast-Track LCA rules. With this single standard for calculations, you get reliable, transparent, and comparable reports. Key metrics, such as carbon footprint and eco-costs, provide a clear view of environmental impact across all lifecycle stages. The results and data are fully compliant with the Green Claim Directive and CSRD, supporting regulatory needs and ensuring credibility.

Step 4: Put Your Insights to Use

With reports ready, Pickler’s features help you act on insights. View your impact reports to understand your product's impact hotspots.

Compare packaging options side-by-side to find the most sustainable choices, create scope 3 reports for your customers with CSRD compliant data and test new materials or designs before implementing changes.

Pickler’s sharing options, including links and website widgets, make it easy to share impact reports transparently, strengthening client trust and showcasing your commitment to sustainability.

Step 5: Refine and improve your data

Refine your product’s impact assessment by upgrading from secondary to primary data. While secondary data provides reliable estimates, adding primary data—such as exact energy use and specific materials—gives a more precise view of your product’s footprint.

This shift can reveal a lower impact if your processes are efficient, enhances credibility in sustainability claims, and aligns with regulatory standards like the Green Claims Directive and CSRD for transparent, verified reporting.
