Product Setup and general product data

How to set up a product and understand the footprint steps in the sidebar

Updated this week

The product form is one of three methods (alongside spreadsheet and API integration) for entering your product data into Pickler.

Product Setup

At the top of the form, you choose how the product should be handled in Pickler.

Product type

The type of product you want to create.

  • Inventory product: A real product you sell that represents actual data.

  • Scenario product: A dummy product, not in your actual inventory. Best used for “what-if” calculations (e.g., different material, supplier, design).

Status: Draft / Verified

  • Draft: still being completed or reviewed.

  • Verified: fully checked and approved (internal use only).

Fill data gaps

If enabled, Pickler automatically fills missing lifecycle data with conservative industry defaults.

Examples:

  • Missing processing energy → filled with global average

  • Missing transport route → filled with typical transport type + distance

This ensures you always get a result, even when you don’t provide all data.

Tip: When Fill Data Gaps is off, all required fields must be completed before the footprint can be calculated.

Sidebar

In the sidebar, you find all steps in the product form. They are split in three sections:

  • General product information - basic information to identify your product, like name, SKU, weight, and dimensions

  • Footprint data - Covers all product data needed for footprint calculations; raw materials, additional packaging, transport and end of life.

  • Compliance data - Claims and regulatory information required under the PPWR, Digital Product Passport (DPP), ESPR, and general EU environmental claims rules. Not needed for footprint calculations.

Yellow indicators

The yellow numbers indicate the data gaps in your product. When there are still data gaps present, your footprint can not be calculated.

Tip: Toggle Fill data gaps to let use Pickler's conservative defaults to fill your data gaps. Pickler can fill all data gaps except for materials.
