Greenwashing Risk: Using Exported Impact Data
When you export impact data, you are downloading a static snapshot of the calculations at that moment in time. There is a risk of greenwashing if you use this data for public environmental claims, as it may quickly become outdated.
β
The accuracy of the data can change due to:
You updating the product data (e.g., changing material weights).
Pickler updating the underlying IDEMAT data.
How to Prevent Greenwashing When Using Exported Data
To mitigate the risk of using outdated data and ensure your claims are transparent and reliable, follow these guidelines:
Make Regular Exports: Commit to making and using the latest exports at least once per month to ensure you are referencing the most current data.
Include Transparency Links: When using the data via any public channel (website, marketing materials, product sheets), make sure to also include the provided link to the Eco Forecast or embed the iFrame with the environmental impact score. This allows users to check the live, verifiable data in the Pickler platform.
Consider Our API: For applications requiring live, up-to-the-minute data syncs, we recommend using our API. This allows for a direct, live integration with your ERP, e-commerce platform, or other internal systems. Contact us for more information on API access.
