Pickler’s methodology follows the GS1 hierarchy for product identification and the PACT framework for carbon data exchange. This dual compliance ensures full traceability and interoperability — from product to pallet — enabling seamless data sharing, accurate footprint allocation, and compatibility with global reporting systems and Digital Product Passport requirements.

GS1-based data structure

GS1 is the international standard for product identification and data exchange (e.g. barcodes).

It defines a hierarchical model — product → pack → case → pallet — to describe how packaging moves through the supply chain.

How Pickler aligns:
Pickler structures all data according to this hierarchy.

This ensures:

  1. Accurate reflection of the full packaging system — from individual product to pallet level.

  2. Compatibility with supply chain databases and upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements.

  3. Seamless reporting across hierarchy levels, enabling data aggregation or drill-down from product to shipment.

  4. Correct calculation of the impact of additional packaging (such as cases and pallets) in proportion to the individual product, ensuring fair and consistent footprint allocation.

PACT framework (WBCSD)

The PACT framework (Product Attribute to Impact, by the WBCSD) defines a global standard for how companies exchange product carbon footprint (PCF) data.
It sets rules for data classification, completeness, and interoperability between systems.

How Pickler aligns:
Pickler fully follows PACT’s structure:

  • Data classification: Every dataset is tagged as primary, secondary, or default (proxy).

  • Data completeness: Pickler’s Primary Data Share (PDS) shows how much of a footprint is based on primary data.

  • Interoperability: Pickler supports PACT-compatible JSON exchanges for supplier and customer data.

This ensures data consistency and compatibility with international carbon accounting platforms.
