Pickler automatically calculates the distance and predicts transport method, when locations are mapped. This works as follows:

  • Pickler checks if the transport is over land. If so, we use "Truck with trailer" transport method with market average impact data from IDEMAT and the distance to calculate emissions.

  • If over land isn't possible with your locations, we assume transport is over sea.

How Pickler automatically calculates transport over sea:

  1. Pickler calculates the distance over land to the nearest container port with truck and trailer.

  2. Next, Pickler calculate the route over sea to port closest to the next location, using emission data for a container ship.

  3. Then we calculate the route over over land to the final destination, using truck and trailer again.

The distance, locations and way of transport can be changed by the user using the product form or import functionalities.
